We had the pleasure of welcoming Jan Ceyssens, Deputy Chief of Staff to the European Commissioner for the Environment, Jessika Roswall, for a working lunch dedicated to the environmental and industrial priorities of the new European Commission.
💬 On this occasion, Jan Ceyssens reviewed the major projects currently underway, with a strong message: competitiveness and the ecological transition must go hand in hand.
🌍 Green Deal & Regulatory Simplification
As the Green Deal enters its implementation phase, a major effort is being launched to simplify environmental regulations through a legislative omnibus. The objective: to reduce the administrative burden for businesses while maintaining ecological ambitions.
👉 The call for contributions is open until September 10.
♻️ Circular Economy & Clean Industrial Deal
Industrial resilience requires a competitive circular economy. The Circular Economy Act will be one of the pillars of the Clean Industrial Deal, with the ambition of doubling the share of recycled materials by 2030. This approach is reinforced by the observation that 75% of EU businesses depend on nature, while 80% of natural environments are in poor condition. A call for contributions is expected before August.
💧 Water Strategy
With its Water Resilience Strategy, the Commission aims to repair the water cycle, strengthen water efficiency, and support a water-efficient economy. More than €15 billion in financing is planned by the EIB by 2027. Jan Ceyssens emphasized the central role of public and private financing in this strategic area. 🔄 Recycling Challenges
Finally, the discussions highlighted the challenges associated with recycling, the sector's competitiveness, and the need to create greater demand for recycled materials.
